I am going to try to reuse the firewall and front floor section from the Ram.

Engine Set On The New Frame

I finished mounting the front suspension and put the wheels on, then swapped the motor over.

The passenger motor mount is bent way back. Looks like I’ll have to order the parts for that before the motor can be bolted in.

Here’s a shot of the old frame with the engine out so you can see just how smashed it was.

Rear Suspension on New Frame

I got the rear suspension moved over to the new frame and started on the chassis wiring and rear brake lines.

Frame Shortening

Here is the frame being shortened 32.5 inches.

The stock wheelbase on the Trailduster is 106 inches. The new frame is now 108 inches. The extra two inches will be uses to move the front axle forward for tire clearance.

Ram Dashboard Tear Down

Here is the donor dash being taken apart.

The wiring harnesses, gauge cluster, some dash controls, and the steering column/gas/brake assembly will be re-used in the trailduster.

Haven’t decided on the heat/AC yet.

2012 Ram

We bought a 2012 Ram 1500 that we are going to set our 1974 Plymouth Trailduster body on top of. The 74 is the early model without window frames. They were produced that way for the first six months or so. It makes it pretty unique but also impossible to find a replacement top for.
